The Courting Candle and Mandrel - Revisited
Written by Mike Dickie

Fig. 3     Note: I make no recommendations about length of stock. It will depend on your design, No. of coils etc. Devise some way to attach it to the wall. I fuller a groove and drill for a screw as illustrated, and put a second screw through the eye of the top scroll, but you may use an entirely different method. Allow about 3 3.5" from the coil and make a 90 degree bend on same axis as coil. FIG 3.

Now, reverse mandrel in the vise, and following the same procedure, make another exactly opposite to the previous one. FIG. 4

Fig. 4    To use, attach to wall in whatever way pleases you the most. FIG. 5 Insert a wooden dowel (diameter determined by the size of your mandrel - mine fits 3 7/8" dowel just right) of whatever length necessary, and viola, it's done! If you place the brackets 6" or so apart, you have A toilet paper holder or faced cloth bar. If you place them 18" apart they can be a hand towel bar. You can use them for curtain rods, or to display Grandma's quilt, or whatever other use you or your client can think of for a wall mounted rod, depending on the length (and strength) of the dowel. If made sturdy enough, they could form handles for a chest, or even A door I suppose. You will no doubt think of many things I haven't.

After years of trying to get a "round toit" - the Elektric Anvil has been re-integrated into the Celtic Knot. I have closed "ElektricAnvil.net" and am now working on adding new material to the knot.  Come back soon to see what's new at the Celtic Knot.
