The Courting Candle and Mandrel - Revisited
Written by Mike Dickie

This was originally printed in "The Rivet" and reprinted in the UMBA Journal, Volume 16, Number 5, September-October 1994.  This entire article (text and graphics) is available as a single file, "courting_candle_revisited.pdf " - approx. 20Kb

Bathroom Tissue Dispenser
A Bathroom Tissue holder made on the courting candle mandrel.

As mentioned in the last article concerning this marvelous device,(which was not copied from Marlon regardless of possible rumors circulating to that effect,) there are other uses to which it can be put. Here is another suggestion for it's use.  I use it to make towel racks, toilet tissue holders, and other similar devices in the following manner.

Fig. 1

Starting with 5/16" round stock, draw a round taper on the end, start the bend over the anvil as before and using the rotating mandrel, wrap the stock around about 3.5 or more turns (your preference) in a tight coil. FIG 1. Determine what form the other end will take, (scroll, leaf, whatever and complete the design to your satisfaction. FIG 2.

After years of trying to get a "round toit" - the Elektric Anvil has been re-integrated into the Celtic Knot. I have closed "ElektricAnvil.net" and am now working on adding new material to the knot.  Come back soon to see what's new at the Celtic Knot.
