OMG!!! Head Lice!?!

The nit comb in action.
The nit comb in action.
As a Medical Technologist by profession I actually have training in parasitology but the first time I pulled that comb through her hair and saw a louse wiggling on the teeth of the comb it was all I could do to stand there and not run screaming from the room.  I combed her hair until no additional critters or eggs showed up on the comb, which was quite a feat.

But it wasn't enough.

Two days later she was sent home from summer camp because the counselor could still see nits (eggs) in her hair.  The lady had to have sharp eyes cause' my myopic peepers couldn't see them until I took her home and got some magnifying glasses out.  I got the combs back out and discovered that her hair was fine enough to slip through the teeth in the comb without dislodging the nits.  I could comb all I wanted, but nuthin' was coming out…

Great…  Now what?!

I went on-line and started searching for nit removing references.  Turns out that everyone has an opinion on how to get rid of lice and, big surprise, they are often contradictory.  One of the old "home remedies" involves applying olive oil or mayonnaise to the hair and then using the nit comb.  I knew from previous attempts that using the nit comb pulled a lot of hair out of my daughters head and just destroyed her hair, so maybe if I used some sort of oil to wet and lubricate her hair, I would have better luck getting the nits out.  We plopped our daughter in a chair in front of the televisions, applied V05 hot oil and started combing.  We were shocked at how much easier that made things.

Not easy, by any means, but easier.

After years of trying to get a "round toit" - the Elektric Anvil has been re-integrated into the Celtic Knot. I have closed "ElektricAnvil.net" and am now working on adding new material to the knot.  Come back soon to see what's new at the Celtic Knot.
