Building The Basic Frame

The Basic Structure
The Basic Structure
The frame of the forge is a basic table structure.  I built mine a little wider than it is deep in  order to provide a small amount of bench space.  The actual dimensions of the fire box (the open area on the left) are determined the the size of the fire bricks that you use to form the firepot.  Firebricks will be used to form the sides of the firepot and the open area I am calling the firebox must accommodate whatever bricks you purchase and in whatever arrangement you place them.  But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Image     At the front and rear of the firebox are strips of angle iron that run the entire width.  These strips of angle iron are used to support metal slats that hold the floor of the firepot much like wooden slats in an old-fashioned bed frame.

The strips of angle iron that will support the slats need to be at least a 1/2" deep.  You need enough material to support the slats and still leave a little "wiggle room," as everything will expand a bit as the forge heats up.

After years of trying to get a "round toit" - the Elektric Anvil has been re-integrated into the Celtic Knot. I have closed "ElektricAnvil.net" and am now working on adding new material to the knot.  Come back soon to see what's new at the Celtic Knot.
