     Finish the hook as desired. In the photo, Joe Urbano is rubbing the S-hook with beeswax while it is still warm. This is a very good and very traditional finish. Rub or brush the excess wax off when the piece is cool.
     You could also wipe it down with linseed or vegetable oil instead. You could even paint it if you wish.
