 Geometry for the Metalsmith as shared by Clifton Ralph

Clifton Ralph, who attributes these formulas to a forgotten blacksmithing publication from a number of years ago, has provided them for everyone's use. They have appeared in numerous ABANA Chapter publications. If you ever have the opportunity to see Clifton demonstrate, take it! You won't regret it!

The vast majority of this collection is taken from the Indiana Blacksmiths Association Newsletter, "Forge Fire", July 1995.

To find the circumference of a circle:
Multiply the radius by 6.2832 or
Multiply the diameter by 3.1416 or
Multiply the square root of the area by 3.5449

To find the radius of a circle:
Multipy the diameter by 0.5 or
Multiply the circumference by 0.15915 or
Multiply the square root of the area by 0.56419
