Page 6 of 6 I had a similar injury a few years ago. After weeks of visits to the chiropractor, an MD and months of just nursing it I finally got this exercise contraption at the sporting goods store. It fits over your forearm and you push and pull a spring loaded handle. It almost seems like a wrist exerciser. It fixed me up in no time. Joseph McGlynn
I know there are many treatments for tennis/smiths elbow, and most of the problem is due to tendinosis, the wear and tearing of tendon. Healthy tendon has 30kpsi tensile strength. I rarely ever need to operate and rarely ever use cortisone, it weakens tendon tensile strength. Some elbow pain in the common lateral or outside position is due to the C6 cervical disc disease in the neck, and some pain is due to nerve entrapment in the extensor muscle belly near the elbow. Having said all that, common is common, and tendonitis/tendinosis is the most usual diagnosis. I see 35 patients a week in the mill town where I have practiced Orthopaedic/Hand surgery for two decades. I use a non stretchable tennis elbow band, desensitization and anti-inflammation medication [advil 600 mgs 3-4 times a day with food] and this works. I have recently sent an article to the California Blacksmiths Assoc. Journal and Hope it to be published. David CM Schiff MD
