My job often requires me to report to outside agencies within a timeline defined like "within 45 days of discovery."  So, if you found something on October 17th, what date is 45 days later?  What is the actual deadline?  When I finally got tired of breaking out a calendar and counting days between dates I wrote a little VB Application called "DateCalc".
    It's really very simple, DateCalc calculates the period between any two dates and returns the answer in days, weeks, months, years or all of the above.
