A Contemporary Clock

When my daughter was born I took, essentially, a two-year hiatus from the shop. I missed my time at the anvil greatly, but my daughter was worth the sacrifice. In the Fall of 2001, I ventured out into the shop with a new outlook and attitude. I also needed to get back in the saddle and go in a new creative direction. As I gazed around the shop and sifted through the metal I had available, I came across a substantial pile of punch-outs in sizes from 2 to 7. Functional sculpture has always interested me, so I pondered… What can I make from punch-outs that I haven't made before? I decided on clocks. This simple piece was my original concept and practice piece. Made entirely of scrap metal, forged and fabricated. The texture of the clock face was produced with a special made tool and a treadle hammer. The texture of the base (not readily visible in the photo) was done with an arc welder set up to lay a great deal of spatter. The overall effect worked well and the clock sold almost immediately.

After years of trying to get a "round toit" - the Elektric Anvil has been re-integrated into the Celtic Knot. I have closed "ElektricAnvil.net" and am now working on adding new material to the knot.  Come back soon to see what's new at the Celtic Knot.
